How do I choose a domain name?

You want a name that is easy to remember and can be typed easily. Try to think of a name that describes your site, company, products and services. Although you can register a name with up to 63 characters, the general rule of thumb is, keep it under seven characters if possible. (Not including the suffix .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info and .us).

What is domain name registration?

Domain name registration is the process of leasing a domain name for a set number of years. Once you register a domain name you become the owner of the name as long as you renew the registration for it each year. For example, a domain name is the 'yourcompany' part of www.yourcompany.com. This is the address for your future website. Atlas Hosting can register your domain name for a little as $14.99 a year. Click here to register your domain name.

Please note: The yearly domain name registration fee will be waived with the purchase of any hosting plan. Atlas Hosting will also renew your yearly registration for free, in your name, as long as you remain our customer. (Only applies to .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info and .us domain names).

Atlas Hosting can only renew your domain name if the name is registered through us or has completed a registration transfer to us.

How do I know that the domain name I want is available?

How do I renew my existing domain name?

How do I transfer my domain to Atlas Hosting?
Once you've signed up for a web hosting account using our secure on-line order form. You will receive an email that will include the necessary information so you can start uploading your website to our servers right away.

Atlas Hosting is a Registration Service Provider for OpenSRS. The transfer of your registration is free with your website hosting. If you choose to transfer, this will add 1 year to your current expiration date, and Atlas Hosting will automatically pay the yearly renewal fee for free as long as you remain our customer.

You will remain the owner of the domain. We will use the contact information provided when you signed up for the owner and administrative contacts for your domain registration. Atlas Hosting will be the technical contact of the domain.

Domain Transfer Instructions

The current administrative contact of your domain will receive an email from "OpenSRS Transfers" with simple instructions allowing you to confirm or deny the transfer to us.

If the current administrative contact of your domain confirms the transfer, your current registrar will in most cases send you their own confirmation as well, allowing you to confirm or deny the transfer away from them.

If the administrative contact or registrar of your domain denies or ignores the transfer request, we will notify you, and you will be responsible for your yearly domain renewal fees as well as setting the nameservers for your domain to the following:

How long does it take to transfer my domain name?

The domain name transfer process usually takes less than one week, but is greatly dependent on the response time of the customer as well as the registraion sevice provider that you are transferring away from. For more details click here.

What is a domain redemption period?

When a domain name expires, there is a 45 day grace period where it can be renewed. After this 45 day grace period, there is a 30 day redemption period that requires an additional redemption fee to be paid to renew the domain. The redemption period ends 75 days after expiration, and the domain will become available for registration to anybody.

This is a policy imposed by ICANN on all domains with the extensions of .biz, .com, .info, .name, .net and .org.

If you try to renew a domain that is in the redemption period, we will contact you for authorization to charge the redemption and renewal fee to your account. Domains registered with Atlas Hosting will be charged $80.00 to be redeemed in addition to the yearly renewal fee of $14.99.
